Dear Melvyn, It was a pleasant evening listening to Ashok Vajpeyi and had never imagined that in Mangalore will get an oppurtunity to listen to Gulzar sahab and Ashok Vajpeyi. It brings back nostalgic memories of my college days in Allahabad University, where I got an opportunity to listen to greats like Firaq Gorakhpuri, Faiz Ahmed etc. The venue for the evening was compact and cosy, ideal for such gatherings. Thanks a lot and here's wishing you all the best in your future endeavours. With regards.

Sometimes what is to be said is ought to be said. By omitting to say something one becomes the part of system that we all criticise in private. Poet Melvyn Rodrigues come out with apt metaphor of 'Soombay' to bring out shallow thinking of people who stage a enactment of welfare of language, literature and society. By writing this poem he tries to point out ills plaguing our system. Those concerned should take lessons from it and if they don't the system will teach them lesson. But when system teaches it is with a big bang like the cloud burst in Uttarakand!
